Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
